What causes life to begin?

One must first note a very important conflict: though scientific views on creation differ greatly from that of religious beliefs, it is still wise to discuss both, shall we say, sides of the story. Though creation is a topic that is not taken lightly by either group, I feel that it is necessary to discuss here and cannot be avoided in modern science.

Many scientists agree that our sun, its planets, our galaxy, and the universe as a whole were created through a system that science calls evolution. One may ask "Do you believe in evolution?" Hidden in this statement is a very important word: believe- faith. This is where the conflict arises and is where the line can be drawn between science and religion.

Religion is based on faith, and science is based on fact through experimental observation. Nevertheless, a point can be made about both religion and evolution. Websters College Dictionary defines evolution, "Any process of formation or growth and development," and it is, "The theory that all existing organisims developed from earlier forms by natural selection." A view that is highly controversial in the religious community is that humans evolved from earlier forms of primates. A world full of twentieth-century primates is not quite what the Apostles had in mind.
